begin with choosing the kind of career you want. It should be the
career that matches your qualifications, has the potential to help
you advance in the career ladder and, most of all, will give you
the greatest satisfaction and happiness.
However, there are a lot of people who
start their careers without really knowing what they actually want.
Are you one of them? The process of choosing a career isn’t
that easy, but it two simple steps.
First, you need to find out what your
interests, likes and dislikes, attitudes and dispositions are along
with other things that make up your personality. Know yourself well
enough to see what you really want in life.
Second, study the different career options
available today and see if it’s consistent with your interests
in life and if it also gives you the kind of fulfillment you want
to achieve later on.
If you keep in mind these two steps as you determine the kind of
career you want, you’re sure to get that dream job meant for
you.
But first, let’s get some words clearly defined as we encounter
them throughout this book: job, occupation and career. Job refers
to a particular position in a particular firm or company; occupation
refers to the specific line of work that has under it several kinds
of jobs; and career refers to all the jobs a person has held
as well as his or her occupational work history. Keep this in mind
as you continue reading.
